New Zealand's food industry relies on Sealed Air packaging solutions to keep food safe and minimize waste.
At the Te Rapa distribution centre, where up to 70 pallets of packaging are shipped every day, wrapping operations are being entrusted to a new Spinny S140.
Sealed Air is a multinational company with over 25,000 employees in 175 countries where they operate. Although best known for Bubble Wrap, they supply a wide range of products. A high percentage of local shipments go to food manufacturers and exporters. Fresh, processed or frozen, all foods require quality packaging to keep them safe and on the shelf longer.
In New Zealand, Fonterra is a major customer, receiving tonnes of plastic film for packaging their deli dairy products. Tegel is another major customer, as are meat processors across the country.
After it was decided to replace the existing wrapper, the Spinny S140 was chosen. “It does a lot more than the other one,” says warehouse worker Bruce Jones. “Where the other wrapper was just on or off, up or down, this one has a lot more features.”
Spinny S140 is semi-automatic, a big advantage over the old wrapper, as it allows for a range of programmable wrapping cycles. Sensor-controlled rotation stop is useful for managing different load sizes. “We do lots of different little things,” says Bruce, “and some really heavy loads too – resin bag pallets can weigh up to 1500kg.”
